UCI, a general contractor specializing in utilities in Wichita, Kansas, needed a new office building to consolidate its widespread teams. GLMV renovated a 75,000-square-foot warehouse to include a new 22,000-square-foot office for the UCI team as well as an additional 53,000 square feet of office and warehouse space for a co-tenant. Construction coordination was critical, as the building was partially occupied by the co-tenant during construction.
GLMV provided a number of floor plan options to UCI and ultimately, the design was built around the concept of “neighborhoods” for each department. Transparency and accessibility were priorities for UCI as well, so GLMV designed open management offices at the heart of the space and glass-walled conference rooms. For fostering inspiration among UCI employees, we incorporated industry-specific artwork and murals, and utilized special materials to allow for writing on both painted and glass walls—contributing to a clean aesthetic while also making it easier for employees to share ideas.
