The Mutual Ice Company Building, located in Kansas City, Missouri, was originally constructed in 1907. Because it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, we had a responsibility to maintain its historical integrity while giving it new life through careful modification. Now the Westport Ice House, the building will continue to hold its place in the historical Westport area for years to come.
GLMV designed the 6,200-square-foot remodel of the Westport Ice House, composed of limestone exterior walls and wood frame interior with heavy timber elements. New openings were made in the central limestone wall to connect the north and south portions of the building. We also assisted with preparation of historic preservation tax credit documentation.

With a nod to our firm’s 1919 roots and an eye to the future, we undertook this renovation in a juxtaposition of historical preservation and state-of-the-art sustainability. Contemporary finishes and furnishings are included within the confines of original, exposed building elements, resulting in a beautiful work environment and the creation of a local landmark that has spurred downtown growth.
When CrossFirst Bank decided to expand its specialized banking presence, they called on us to help. Collaborating with an independent interior designer and local contractor, we created a nontraditional banking facility that would both harmonize with surrounding structures and stand out to attract more business banking customers.
