Aviation Engineer
GLMV is looking for an Aviation Engineer to lead design efforts for airside and landside airport infrastructure and development of both commercial and general aviation airports. The Aviation Engineer will be frequently interacting with professional staff, clients, contractors, local government officials, from conceptual and design phases, through the regulatory review process, permitting, and construction. This position will interact with staff and projects in all offices and on projects in locations throughout the country.
Responsibilities
- Design runways, taxiways, and support facilities.
- Develop airport layout plans, construction cost estimates, and perform computer aided design.
- Develop and direct design and preparation of technical reports, calculations, project drawings, details and specifications.
- Ability to coordinate and direct efforts of technical staff to develop high-quality deliverables.
- Prepares requests for proposals for professional engineering, consulting, and environmental services.
- Reviews requests from consultants for changes in scope of work and recommends appropriate action.
- Inspects project sites during planning and design phases, and during construction for compliance with specifications and plans.
- Supervises or conducts field and laboratory investigations required to obtain representative soil information of potential construction sites; such investigations may be through borings, soundings, sampling or testing.
- Provides technical support and acts as an engineering liaison between the airport, GLMV, and other governmental agencies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge and application of FAA design standards and specifications.
- Expertise in using engineering design and office software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.
- Prepare and manage project activities, including monitoring budgets, work schedules, grant requirements and progress reviews.
- Strong technical writing skills and ability to convey engineering decisions and concepts to non-technical and technically based audiences.

Required Experience and Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Four years of professional civil engineering experience.
- Experience in airport/aviation engineering is preferred.
