FY09 Barracks – Certified Gold
Designed to meet a minimum level of LEED Silver, this project was certified Gold. Potable water use was reduced by 40 percent. At least 50 percent of the non-hazardous construction and demolition and construction waste was recycled or salvaged. 10 percent of the building materials were extracted, harvested, or recovered as well as manufactured within 500 miles of the site. Cool roofing was used to reduce the heat island effect of the roof system. Indoor air quality and thermal comfort was monitored during construction as well as post-construction to ensure a comfortable, healthy building for all occupants. Outside air supplied to each barracks room is 30 percent more than the minimum required by AHSRAE 62.1 - 2004. Additionally, operable windows will be specified and, combined with unit exhaust fans, should achieve the required fresh air flow.
