The Wichita Area Treatment, Education and Remediation Center is the culmination of an effort to clean up contaminated water located under the downtown area of the City of Wichita. The facility consists of a 3,000-square-foot Treatment Center and a 4,000-square-foot Education Pavilion. The concept for this facility is to express the life-affirming qualities of water. This concept is expressed by using the metaphor of a ripple and countering it with the path of water and people as they both journey through life.
The Treatment Center is located at the heart of the facility and houses the elements which treat the water. It is a circular building made out of glass block. This element is penetrated by an aqueduct element which takes the water and begins its journey. The Education Pavilion is located radially off of the Treatment Center. It serves as an environmental education facility which is used by schools and community groups. A park shelter and rest room facilities are also located in this area.
