Fort Jackson National Cemetery – Columbia, SC

The Fort Jackson National Cemetery was developed to provide burial services to veterans in South Carolina. The first development was a fast track operation with modular buildings and in-ground burial sites. The second step was to develop an initial design that included the formal cemetery entrance, administration and maintenance buildings, ceremonial plaza, assembly area, committal service shelter, columbarium, preplaced grave liners, and additional burial sections. The scope of services included master planning for the entire 600-acre site. Master planning included layout of the temporary phase to incorporate into the permanent phases; planning for cortege, visitors, families, deliveries, and military traffic; preservation and promotion of more native tree species; and periodic vehicular access through the cemetery for the Army.
